About Me

My name is Juliane Manitz and I hold a PhD in Statistics/Mathematics. For the last seven years I have been working in cancer research at EMD Serono/Merck KGaA. My previous academic research focused on statistical analysis of network data as well as interdisciplinary statistical consulting.

I take pleasure in building open-source software, primarily using R, and I enjoy sharing knowledge through teaching. I have developed and taught lectures and workshops for students of various levels and backgrounds, covering topics such as introductory statistics, machine learning, spatial statistics, mixed models, and statistical programming.

I grew up in Berlin, Germany, and have lived in the Greater Boston area since 2016. I have gained extensive international experience through exchanges at the University of Auckland/University of Canterbury in New Zealand (2014/2017), the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Australia (2014/2015), Northwestern University, IL, USA (2011/2012), and the University of Cyprus in Nicosia, Cyprus (2007–2008).

I am also a passionate climate activist with Extinction Rebellion Boston. Since 2019, I have organized and supported various protests focused on climate-related issues in environmental justice communities. More recently, I have been looking to apply my professional expertise to addressing the urgent challenges of the climate crisis. As part of this journey, I began the Climatebase Fellowship for climate career acceleration through an industry-oriented educational program.
